Here are some qualities to look for in a manager so you can ensure you have hired the right one to represent your property.

They Stay Up to Date on Rules and Guidelines

The body corporate manager will need to follow all guidelines for your property, beginning with the corporate legislature and following up with the instructions by the Body Corporate Committee. This means consistently learning about the new guidelines and staying up-to-date about any changes that occur. This can be anything from updating how records are organized to paying routine utility bills. Someone who shows an aptitude to go above and beyond is someone you should consider hiring for the type of job.

Excellent Organizational Skills

A big part of the body corporate manager's job is to maintain all administrative records and paperwork. They not only need to know the right protocol, but have outstanding organizational skills. It requires keeping on top of all records, reports, invoices, and finances for your property, often times handling all of this alone. Inquire about how they kept up with records at their previous jobs as this is a really important thing to find out. One small misstep can become chaotic in a busy body corporate office.

Stellar Communication Skills

Another quality you want to look for in your body corporate manager is the ability to communicate effectively on all matters. This is easy to distinguish from the moment you first speak to them when asking them to come in for an interview, and during the interview itself. While many people are a little more nervous during job interviews, you should be able to tell if they feel comfortable communicating just from the interview alone. They should be able to listen about different issues and come up with compromises, as well as handling complaints.

Ability to Train New Employees

The body corporate manager might also be in charge of helping to hire and train new administrative employees, like an assistant or an office manager. If this will be one of their responsibilities, look for someone with experience training others, including someone with a lot of patience and understanding.
